I have several folders sitting on my desktop where I drop pdfs/docs/etc into but all these files seem to have disappeared! I still see all the folders (and empty folders within folders) but nothing else. Have I accidentally disabled a viewing option?

This seems to be an issue only with files that were on my desktop. Files stored anywhere else all seem to still be there.

Oh - I was messing around with iCloud last night and I did enable the sync "documents & data" option. If my issue is related to iCloud, where are my documents stored?

Thanks!

Edit: Actually, I don't think it's an iCloud problem. I remember seeing files there this morning (about 12 hours ago).

Desktop plist file corruption?

In your user folder:
~/Library/Preferences
folder is hidden if you're using Lion
someone help with instructions (I use Leopard)

find:
com.apple.desktop.plist
move file out of there
restart

Better?
