Files greyed out in App, but not in Finder.

On OSX 10.7.5, trying to load a file to soft-proof in View/Custom in Photoshop CS5. All files there, but greyed out. (don't think problem anything to do with Pshp). Tried deleting Preferences, repairing disk permissions. Files visible and not greyed out when looking in Finder.
Any help appreciated, thanks.
