Files not showing in finder

I have macbook pro M1pro running monterrey. Recently I noticed some very weird behaviour.
When I save a new file, say a word document, it does not immediately show in the finder in the location where it should be.
However, usually when I then search for the file it appears. I use iCloud for my documents.

Does anybody have any experience of this issue or have a fix?

How are documents sorted in the current Finder window you are viewing? I've noticed when in "as List" view and sorted by either "Date Added" or "Date Modified" with most recent at the top, newly added documents don't initially appear at the top.
