I have file sharing turned on my iMac to access my iMac on my network from other Macs with read/write access to just me.

I just bought File Browser for my iPad/iPhone so I can browse files on my iMac from my iOS devices so I changed the settings under options (as required) in File Sharing by now turning on the checkbox next to my name under Windows File Sharing. I also have the Firewall turned on.

1. Is there anything I can do on my network to make sure my Mac is as secure as possible from hacks?
2. I'd like to be able to access my iMac from my iPhone/iPad remotely. I understand that packets of data are possible to be read by others when using open Wifi or even cellular data. Is there anything I can do to minimize this? Is there any chance that someone can get into my iMac remotely by me accessing it remotely from my iPhone/iPad?

Thanks.
