Filevault: Does it depend on account password strength?

Hi, once the hard drive is erased: Does the encryption with filevault of the (now deleted) files depend on the strength of the former account password? Could someone recover the files with the old account password or is there some key that is destroyed forever? Also interested in differences with/without T2 chip if there are any.
