Hi, new here.

I've heard that FileVault does not noticeably slow down performance when turned on. If this is the case, why don't Apple have it turned on as standard, considering it vastly improves security?
 
From what I've read on this review AnandTech it does impact performance. Plus as a user, I want the choice, that is if I want it. I can turn it on. I think the default of having it off is the better option
