Filevault: Why so unreliable?

I see from the forums that it's not exactly a new issue. Never had good luck with it myself and was wondering what, if anything, could be done to get it to be more reliable in terms of impacting other applications - crashes on shutdown, crashes from sleep, etc.

I have been using FV on my Tiger PB for close to a year now. I had a problem with a menu bar items disappearing, something that rebooting fixed.

Other than that, it has been working fine for me, regardless of all the stories I have read about it not being stable.


(of course, I still backup and clone my HD just in case anything goes wrong )
