Hey Guys,

My boss has asked me for a camera recommendation for filming his kids little league games (he’s the coach).

He wants a camera that’s good quality, I assume 1080p will be fine but also good stability and tracking. Plus good value for money but he’s not given me a budget but I assume I can get a gone one for under 1k?

As crazy as it sounds would a modern iPhone do the trick if we had enough storage and connected to a battery pack?

Game lengths are currently 50mins but would like one to record for 2 hours as games do get longer as kids get older etc.

Are you just setting up a camera with a wide field of view and letting it run? You will want 4k or better to give opportunity to zoom during editing. You may also want more than one camera. The iPhone is not going to get a close up of an outfielder, or an infielder for that matter, if thats what you are looking for.

My coaching experience is that I rarely had time for filming during a game, especially as the kids got older. As a spectator, a compact video camera with at least 20x optical zoom and optical image stabilization produced good results. $1k+. Its something you wouldn't want to let laying around the dugout, however. A Canon Vixia HF G50 UHD 4k would be a camera that works well for this.

Otherwise I just worked with whatever video that got shot. Anything is better than nothing :)
