Final Cut 5.1 on a quicksilver 867

I'm a multimedia student, and was wondering if anyone has used the latest Final Cut or Motion on a G4 867.

Apple says it's the lowest supported system. But my previous uses of Final Cut on that machine weren't all that successful. The speed sucked, but what else would I expect!

I'm just not really able to purchase a new mac. I thought about a MacBook, but with no dedicated GPU, I think it might be pointless. With that said even the refurbs are a bit expensive for my current situation.

So to the original point. Does anyone have suggestions on running Final Cut successfully? My machine is as follows:

G4 867 / 1.25 gigs
60g HDD
120g HDD
Radeon 9800 Pro 128
Superdrive

it's pretty useless. i have a similar setup on my QS G4 and it just doesn't run. Playback in the timeline lags despite lowering RT settings and framrate options and everything else suggested. it just wasn't made for earlier Macs. Go back to 4 if you can get it.
