This update is AWESOME for anyone using any of the latest (canon) AVCHD cameras. I personally use the HF-10 and had to use the HDV-AIC 1080i60 easy setup. After the initial encoding in log and transfer was done, more rendering was needed after pulling clips into the timeline!! and it took forever! I think it was scaling down the 1920x1080 content to 1440x1080.

AFTER UPDATE-Initial encoding to AIC in log and transfer. Pull into timeline (after using AVCHD AIC 1080i60 easy setup) NO MORE RENDERING after pulling video into the timeline. This is great and will save tons of time.
Another plus for anyone considering going to AVCHD vs HDV - I did and im more than impressed. Does this mean that FCE4 is now working with full 1920x1080 content? This means much less time in the rendering footage area either way. great update. thanks apple.

4.01 not coming up in system updates

Saw this update announced here and some of you have downloaded, but I have FCE 4.0 installed on two computers, and neither is updating via Software Update.. and it is not listed.

Additionally, I went to Apple and saw the update information posted, but going to the manual updates... the 4.01 is not listed.

Did Apple pull the update?:mad::mad:

Where the hell is this update now? We are in 2010, is it supposed to be normal that I can't see it in the software update?

ditto, anyone have a link to the actual update, I can't find it on apple.com

thanks

just talked to apple, there is no downloadable update, it can only be updated thru the application. sooo, if you're like me and your internet is down, then you're screwed.

I just figured out how to install the 4.0.1 update in Mavericks. The problem is that the old Software Update mechanism is completely gone in Mavericks.

1. Install Final Cut Express 4.0 on a computer running Mountain Lion (but I’m sure that Lion or Snow Leopard would work, as well).

2. On the command line use
Code:
sudo softwareupdate --download FCE401-4.0.1

3. Go to /Library/Updates/ and look in the various folders therein for FinalCutExpress4.0.1Update.pkg. This is about 128 MB in size.

4. Copy that installer .pkg file to your Mavericks computer and double-click.

Presto! This will update your previously installed Final Cut Express 4.0 to Version 4.0.1.

I tried this on a Snow Leopard system and received:
FCE401-4.0.1: No such update
