Final Cut Express: basic question...PLEAE HELP!

Hello all --

I'm jumping from Vegas on the PC to Final Cut Express. One thing is making me insane....why can't i see a visual representation of my clip in the sequence window??? I can see this in iMovie, but in Final Cut Express, when I add my videos, it just is a colored line with the file name -- even in the FCP tutorial videos you can see one image showing up with each clip.
