Final Cut Express compatibility with Final Cut Pro

I am student in college and my media program uses Final Cut Pro. I cannot afford to buy the entire Pro studio for my laptop, but I am looking into the Final Cut Express to do some of the smaller scale edits from my room or wherever I want. My main question is if I get Express, how easily can I move projects that I am working on in there to Pro. I understand it would not work the other way around, but I am not sure. Anything would help. Thanks!
