Final Cut Express Picture Help

Hello,

I'm trying to insert photographs into a Final Cut Express project of mine, but the quality always turns out poorly. Why is this?

Attached is a picture of what it really looks like, but then on the right is what it looks like when I add it to the project timeline. Please help.
