WHy is it that whenever i play a quicktime file through FCE the sound is choppy. I am new to FCE so dont know much about it.

You need to make sure you're sound is at the native DV resolution: AIFF, 16bit, Stereo, 48khz. Otherwise you'll have to render everytime you make an adjustment. The easiest thing to do is use iTunes to convert your audio to this setting. What type of file are you viewing? Is it an .mpg, .mov, etc.? Final Cut Express works in real time with raw DV footage only.

it is a .mov off of one of my enhanced cds was just tinkering around with it and noticed that it was real choppy.

do you have quicktime pro? if so, export the audio seperately at the correct bit rate and settings and use the new file. if not, you can make the conversion directly inside final cut express. it's all in the manual.
