final cut express/ viewer good, canvas bad

Looking for some help...any help...please help.

Shot HD footage, 1080 at 30 frames on Canon XH A1.
Captured in FCE under the "easy setup" for 1080i60.
Footage looks superb in the viewer, but does not look near as good in the canvas. Viewer plays back full screen (left to right), but canvas plays back with black bars on the side.

How do I get the end product to look like what I am seeing in the viewer?

Double-check your sequence settings (Cmd-0). They probably don't match the capture settings.

Your sequence settings are most likely off. Also try right clicking on the canvas and see where your playback quality is at, if resolution is your problem.
