Hi Everyone,

I'm on the verge of ordering iLife, iWork, and Final Cut Express HD (thanks to Edu pricing :)) and am considering reformatting my Powerbook and re-installing Panther when I do it (I have a stock install right now).

Do any of you have experience installing Final Cut Express/Pro on an external drive? I'm thinking of installing Motion (which I already have) and GarageBand on the same external drive, which I have yet to secure. I have an 80GB drive just begging for a FW800 enclosure. :)

Thanks for any feedback/input/thoughts/whatever.

I installed iMovie, FPC, etc..on an external HDD to compare performance and it wasn't too bad. For most of the tasks it was good performance, however with heavy work and multiple tracks it started to slow down a bit.

It depends on how much rpm your external HDD is and if you are using FW 400 or 800. :)

I was running on FireWire 400 with a 7200 rpm HDD.

I would not recommended on anything slower than 7200 rpm. :)
