Final Cut Pro 11 showing black screen when adding title

FCP 11 is causing me massive headaches when trying to just add a simple title. When I do that the entire video goes black. Doesn't matter what colour text... white is still black I can see where the text is when I select it but no text showing and even worse the entire screen is blacked out.
My specs are pretty damned good so no issues there. M1 Pro max with 64MB ram.
Enclosing a couple screen shots. I've added pictures and a logo and just want to add a title to them. Nothing too difficult.
Must be a setting but I'll be damned if I can find it. Tried finding drop down for wire and image but couldn't find it. Running latest FCP 11
The crazy thing is even when I add a title right over a simple clip the same thing happens. I'm sure it's something simple but I can't figure it out. Hope someone knows what's going on

would you believe it was just a glitch and all I had to do was quit and restart? Jeez. I tell people this 100 times a day and here I am.
Got the suspicion when I made a new event and the same thing happened with simple picture and title. Even worse the picture wasn't showing either
