Final Cut Pro deleted user prefs

Hello. I've had a constant problem with certain things in my preferences changing. For example, I've saved my window layout dozens of times, but each time I open FCP my window placement is different than I saved it. In addition, my favorite effects are getting deleted each time I close FCP, even though I've taken the proper steps to saved them. I've also had a problem with certain settings changing in my preferences, like how often autosave occurs or the amount of undo actions allowed. Does anyone know why this may be happening?
