Final Cut Pro Help - Import Audio not working

My audio when I copy video off of my camera works fine but when I try to import other audio in and put it in the timeline there is a red line at the top and the audio only beeps when I play it...but when played in the inspector window it plays correctly. Any Ideas?

MP3's won't play back in FCP w/o rendering. So you can either convert the MP3's to WAV files or just render the tracks in FCP.
