Final Cut Pro - No audio

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to FCP, but whenever I import a clip, there is no audio. I recorded the clip with VLC and it plays perfectly in VLC, but when I try to import it into FCP, there is no audio! Same goes for when I try to play it in Quicktime. Is there anything I can do, or should I just rip the audio of the clip and try to match them up?
