I just got Final Cut Pro x on my baseline 15" rMBP.
Iv'e seen a ton of videos where people are testing FCP X on the same machine, and it runs buttery smooth in those videos.
But when I play around with it, it lags and are very choppy, even when I'm playing around with a simple title?

Have anyone experienced the same? Or does anyone know the reason for this, and a potential fix?

Thanks,

I heard resetting the SMC works, I don't really know if it does ;)

I'll give it a try. :)
- How is it exactly you do it?

I haven't had problems with my config (listed below), though it's a step up from the base model. Question: are you editing source files on your SSD or on an external drive?

I've seen Tldtoday's video on youtube about the 2,3 rMBP, the same one that I have, and it doesn't lag whatsoever on his machine.
And I do it on my SSD.

I use an early 2011 15" MBP, core i7, 256Gb SSD, and a second 256 SSD in the optical bay, and I had to bump it to 16GB RAM as I edit a very high amount of FCP X.

With 8GB I was experiencing lag and periodic crashing (logs reflecting memory bleed).

I cannot tell you with certainty it will help you, but it absolutely helped me.

You have plenty of CPU and your SSD is plenty fast - it leaves little else to consider.
