What are the differences, if any, between these two pieces of software?

The two differences:

1. Price ($699 vs $1299)
2. Upgrading

If you buy FCS2 academic, you will have to buy a full academic copy of FCS3 when it comes out. Apple does not allow upgrades for academic software.

If you buy commercial, you will be eligible for the cheaper upgrade version when FCS3 comes out.

Thats the only differences. The software itself is exactly the same.

oh, thanks
I guess academic sounds a lot better now considering its about half the price of the normal one. If I wanted the new software, whenever it comes out, I could probably get it at the same price anyways, and spend at least $600 less
