Would there be any disadvantages or problems if I were to run Final Cut Studio entirely off an external drive and use that same drive as a scratch disk? I was a bit dismayed to watch my HD sink down below 10Gigs free after installing FCS on my Macbook.

I may not be right but I hink you have to install the actual apps on the internal drive. But you can install the content from like DVD SP and such on an external drive. Thats How most of the computers at my school are set up.

it also works far more efficiently using your Startup Disk for your apps and an external FW scratch disk.

You can, of course, install all 42gb or so of Content to your scratch disk, saving lots of space inside, but, again, the setup will work better with it all seperated, leaving your scratch disk free for videos.
