Final Cut X audio issue

We are new to FCX and are having these annoying little issues. The latest is that when you bring music in from itunes, it won't play on the timeline. There aren't even any waveforms. We can play it in itunes though. We even tried taking it out to the desktop and importing it back in. Up in the event library it plays, but down on the timeline it doesn't. Any answers?
