I went today and finally bought my first iPhone. A 16GB beauty.
Sadly, even though I'm on an existing AT&T Family Plan, AT&T is taking their dear sweet time activating it. I've been getting the "your activation requires additional time to complete" garbage for the past hour.
Dammit. I jut spent $500 and I WANT TO PLAY WITH MY IPHONE!!!

Patience is a virtue...:D

Ok, no really congrats on your purchase. I know you are going to love it!!
Sorry the thing is taking so long! Hopefully it will be up and running before you know it and this will be a distant memory.

Congrats Kristen! I hope you get that bad boy up and running in short-order!

@Burgess07 - I just bought mine on Tuesday, and no, it didn't require another 2-year commitment.

It could be worse, I've got another month and a half to go before my contract with T-Mobile is up.

worth the wait

I just activated my wife's iphone last week and it took almost 12 hours. ATT had a problem but it was rectified and bam, it was up and running. I was in the Woodland Hills, Ca store today and overheard a salesgirl telling a customer that they had sold 1000 iphones yesterday. I don't know what has caused this sudden resurgence of interest in the iphone but if the volume at this store is representative of the rest of the country I can understand the delays. Can it be the 16gb upgrade? What was your reason for buying now? And by the way, I think it is a given that your contract is automatically renewed for a two year committment in the USA, anyway. I think the other person is wrong. Call ATT to verify. When your phone is up and running call 611.

Yay! I have a beautiful, working iPhone!
How long does it take to get over the anal-retentive cleaning it every 2 seconds because of fingerprints? :)

lol, I wish I could get an iPhone :(
you are lucky... and btw, you are gonna keep cleaning fingerprints for a while... if I had an iPhone, I would stay like a month cleaning every sec...

1. NEVER buy an iPhone near a weekend, expecting to activate it. AT&T apparently has the most incompetent IT department on the planet, and often takes down the activation servers all weekend long for "maintenance".

2. Buy screen films, they really cut down on the fingerprints.

:)

just got an iPhone yesterday.
Took me to 4am untill i found another way of unlocking the1.1.3 by ZiPhone
ZiPhone takes less than 5 mins.!!!

It cost me $435 to have my uncle bought it from U.S. (1.1.3)
It cost my sister $900 when she bought it in Bangkok, Thailand last week. (1.1.1)
Same 8 GB model.
