Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm finally getting a Wii (and getting rid of my old PS2) for Christmas this year, and I wanted to know what games you'd recommend I get first. I know Wii Sports is included with the system, and Wii Play seems like a given seeing as it comes with another controller. I'm looking for games that my wife and I can play together, but I'm not opposed to some good single player games either (I know I'll be getting Zelda: Twilight Princess for sure).

So what do you guys recommend?

Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The wife will love it!

under appreciated (but much hyped on IGN) puzzle/point and click: Zack & Wiki
really great! played it through with a couple of friends al trying to crack some of the more troubling levels.

I got a Wii but I would recommend something else, I thought it got old real quick, but the games Ive enjoyed were Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Theres also games you could buy online like Super Mario Bros. 3

Hopefully I get a PS3 this christmas :)

Mario Galaxy for ultra single player fun (ignore the second player stuff, it's good for a non-gamer to take up though). Everything about that game is seeped in quality, especially the OST.
Smash Bros Brawl is my most played console game ever. And it's about to get a million more hours added over Christmas
Metroid Prime 3 is okay. Better than 2 but still not as good as the first IMO. It's a lot less isolated than the first games too which is what I always associated Metroid games with.
Excite Truck, just daft OTT racing fun. The only racer outside of F-Zero and Mario Kart that I've tried to 100%.
Mario Kart is a good multiplayer title and works really well online too.
Twilight Princess... For obvious reasons.
Mario Strikers just another great multiplayer title and very addictive.

Also been mega entertained by WarioWare, World of Goo, Lost Winds, hella loads of VC games, Batallion Wars Wii, Okami. And if you didn't have a GC you can catch up on Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Smash Bros Melee, Mario Sunshine, Windwaker, F-Zero GX, Mario Kart (though IMO it's the weakest of the series), Odama (just for insanity), Resident Evil, Twin Snakes, Eternal Darkness, Luigis Mansion etc.

I really enjoyed playing Okami, as well as enjoying the new Tales of Symphonia (the voice acting is irresistibly cheesy). SMG would be a must buy imo.

Mario Kart
Wii Sports
Wii Fit
Guitar Hero/Rock Band

Resident Evil 4 Wii. I believe it's only $19 right now. Even if you played it on the PS2.

I like these games, some are redundant of other listings;

Metroid Prime 3
Mario Galaxy
Paper Mario
Medal of Honor 2
Zelda:TP
Okami
Zack & Wiki
Mario Kart Wii

I have more, I just haven't played them.

i bought mario kart for my little sister and i cant wait for her to unwrap it on christmas so I can go over and play it lol.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl- great multiplayer
Super Mario Galaxy- IMO easier than other Mario games but great level design
Mario Kart Wii- Multiplayer is great, don't like the new battle mode as much as the old ones, and 150cc AI is brutal
Super Paper Mario- nice little game, story line was alright but they kept on trying to make jokes that weren't that funny

Those are some of the best games I've played on the Wii and I'm sure that there are a lot more and you might want to consider some Gamecube games.

Other games I heard were good that I haven't owned:
MP3: Corruption
Boom Blox
LOZ: Twilight Princess
GH/Rock Band

Shawn White Snowboarding and the Wii Fit for the board of course.
Second, Guitar Hero.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (a tremendously fun strategy rpg game with an outstanding story)
Wario Land - Shake It (a great "old school" 2D platformer)
Metroid Prime: Corruption (once you play this, you'll never want to use a regular controller for shooters ever again)
Super Paper Mario (like others have said, a lot of fun)
Super Mario Galaxy (a no-brainer...you MUST buy this)
Twilight Princess (a fun Zelda game)
Zack & Wiki (another no-brainer...extremely fun with some great puzzles to figure out)
Resident Evil 4 (The pinnacle of survival horror games)
