First, Happy Holidays!

Second, I got lucky today on Boxing Day and picked a Western Digital 1TB External HDD (USB 2.0).

I'm running Leopard with BootCamp using Windows XP Pro (SP2). I want to SPLIT the HDD, 750GB for OSX and 250GB for XP.

This is my first time using/backing-up. Not exactly sure what to do.

Thanks in advance.

Use disk utility to partition the hard drive into the respective sizes. Do note that your hard drive does not have 1000GB of space, it is instead something like 900GB, so your respective sizes will not be 750 and 250.

When you format each partition, make one of them compatible with Windows, and that should work.

So what's this Format option?

BTW, do I create a Third Partition for TIME MACHINE?

depending on how much you have on your computer, you dont have to portion for time machine.

i have a 320 GB external, and only like 20 GB's of it is taken up with time machine.
