Having owned Macbook Pro's since 2006 I have always wanted an SSD but space limitations vs price was always a problem. I finally bit the bullet and got one for my wife, sata 3 on her PC, and a Sata 6 on my MBP. I have 2011 I7 2.2 with 8 gb of ram.

Boot time is now 12 seconds flat. Down from about 30 with my former Momentus XT. I'm running the Samsun 840 Pro series. Seems like a great drive. Very happy with the results.

Congrats, once you go SSD, you'd never go back.

In terms of storage space, keep your static file on you external drive, best if you get a NAS, much easier.
