Finally installed Snow Leopard and...it's totally awesome. Sorry for wasting a thread on this, just wanted to say how impressed I am with Snow Leopard. Did an upgrade from 10.5.8 on my MBP 2.5 Penryn with absolutely no problems. After 2 restarts (one for 10.6.2 and one for Safari stuff), no slow downs or lag whatsoever. In fact, the system feels snappier all around--Finder, stacks, etc. All preferences and email settings were untouched. I’ve always been a big time expose user with show desktop and show all windows set as hot corners, so I absolutely love the new expose. Only problems were having to update some apps for Snow Leopard compatibility, most notably iStat Menu. Overall very happy with how easy this was. And best of all, the system doesn’t seem to run any hotter, which was my big fear with OpenCL. I can’t speak for others, and certainly there could have been more changes and more improvements, but I for one am totally satisfied with my Mac and with my $30 purchase of Snow Leopard.
P.S. My impression may be biased from my recent experience with Windows 7. I had to setup a Win7 computer for a friend and man oh man I didn’t like it. It’s still as annoying with Vista—excessive eye candy, user access “do you really want to do this?” crap, and on overall disrespect for the user, with the system repeatedly stealing focus from whatever app you are in and generally treating you like you are completely computer illiterate. One very good thing, however, is the ability to enlarge system font and icon size. Handy for big monitors and/or old people. Mac OS X needs to catch up with res independence.
