Well, I have finally gathered enough change to upgrade both storage and memory for 2.8- 8core early 2008

Which would be the best internal HDD 1tb to purchase?
Along with ram.

Here is what I'm looking at so far
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284

ram: 2gbx4 $227 ( i think the prices just went down?)

Your choices look great, but due to the defective drive rate from newegg, I wouldn't order an HDD from them. Poorly packaged, that results in damage.

You could do better somewhere else I think. OWC is fine, AFIAK. I've not seen issues with damaged shipments.

Thanks for the reply, I'll look into other stores.

What is the best way to set up the ram?

Right now I have 2 x1gb

If I add 4 x 2gb

results may vary, ive been ordering from newegg for over 4 years and have only had 1 defective drive; whether it was a manufacture defect or shipping defect who knows but ive ordered well over 25 drives from them and one out of 25 aint bad.

But that drive looks perfect and the price for that memory is a good choice. go for it!

You can find guides online, but you want 2X2gb in first two slots in top riser, 2x2gb in first two slots in bottom riser. If you want, 2x1gb in lowest number riser [I can't remember if it is top or bottom].
