Double Down
Well Guys And Girls! I finally Switched over to Apple. After about 3 months of reading everyone's posts, I bought a Mac Pro 3 days ago and I must say that it is awesome! I just wanna thank everyone for being patient and helping the new guys, such as myself, and answering question after question. That really helped me decide what to get......What do you guys think of my specs? I mostly use it for Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop Lightroom and light video editing.

Thx! in advance

3.2 x 2 quad core
6GB ram(getting more)
8800GT video card(getting another one)
1.5Tb HDD
Dual 20" monitors
Dual Optical disc drives

Your specs suck you cheapskate, why no dual 30's. hmmmmmmm?

:D Very nice, glad you like it. There's nothing quite like watching 8 cores easily chewing through anything

A new Mac user huh? Well here are some apps I have found to be good over the years:

Sandvox
MacJournal
Transmission
Unison
VLC
TextMate

nice! welcome to Macs!

even though you didnt go for the holy grail of dual 30" displays youll still love your dual 20"s.

theres a good app sticky in the Mac Applications thread.

if you have any questions now shoot, or make a new thread later.

LOL! funny Rich and thanks, I currently owned owned the 2 monitors I used with my Pc and didn't see the need to buy apple's monitors(unless they come with built in cameras). Aloc and EdesignUK, thanks for the heads up on those apps, i'm sure to put this Machine thru the paces with lots of apps.

I made the switch in February and have not regretted it one minute. I really hate having to boot to Vista because of MS Money, AutoCadd and QuickBooks. Maybe as more and more people switch some of these companies will make Mac compatible programs.

Another newbie switcher here, moved to this Macbook just over a month ago and loving it, currently in the market for the top of the range iMac or the base spec Mac Pro.

Congratz and welcome :)
One question tho... Why 2x20"??

Thanks everyone for your comments. again, I own the 2 20" monitors (used with my now disfunctioned pc) an saw no need to purchase any other monitors right now. and yes, 30" monitors would really be too big..LOL! maybe by the end of the year, i"ll pick up a couple of 24" monitors which is my plan.

Just make sure you get some with I-SPS panel and not the TFT one.
Better buy 1 good than two crap. That's what I think :)

Don't forget these applications as well:

SuperDuper!
A Better Finder Rename
smcfancontrol

Yet another switcher here also. Just have to find the time to set the machine up.

Just ordered mine yesterday. Finally got tired of you know who. Did next day delivery so I should have it by Fri.
Dual 3.0
8800GT
4.0 ram
500 gig hd (already bought another one)
Dual Optical drives
Have a Dell 27" monitor

Still keeping my Dell laptop, but this will be my workhorse.

I switched nov 06. After using PC's/windows for an eternity (back from win 3.1 days, dos before)

Even my trading platform runs on my mac, natively OS X and its rock solid. Which is important cause seconds and uptime count :)

Once you go mac, you never go back :)

Hey Fcal124, you will not be disappointed at all, enjoy! And thanks that tip D4F, never knew that made a difference.

Thanks. I was a little worried about the 8800GT and my Pro Apps, but I heard that 10.5.3 update increased performance. Hey, if not, the ATI 3870 is coming out.
Should be getting the Mac tomorrow :D

Same story for me - I switched back in January and this is my first Mac (always go big, right? heh)

I use it primarily for Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom as well. It's fast, quiet and there's no such thing as a slowdown on this machine :)

Have fun with it, I know I'm loving mine!
