Finally received my Ronin Element Case

Well, I ordered on December 17th, 2012. The website said orders began shipping December 20th. Long story short, after multiple calls and emails to customer service, mine finally arrived yesterday on January 7th, 2013.

I've uploaded some pictures, since there aren't a lot out there yet.

The wood on mine is a LOT darker than what the marketing pics showed. I think I would have preferred lighter wood, but I don't mind too much. The wood is so dark that it almost blends in with the black of the iPhone.

Let me know if you all have any specific questions!

what's the machining like on the wood pieces?

some of Element's pics seem to have rougher cut where the machined buttons are. i was wondering if Element meant that as part of the charm of the design....or maybe i'm not looking at those pics right.

how does the leather back plate feel?

The machining of the wood seems decent. It's not as smooth as I had thought it would be... I guess I expected a smooth, glossy finish to the wood. But it's not like that.

Also, I can't discern any different in the texture of the wood where the machined buttons are. Maybe it's the lighting in the pictures?

The back leather plate is awesome. I love it. I went with the leather one vs. the suede one, because the color matched my particular wood pieces better (the leather back is darker brown than the suede back).

So far I've gotten good reactions. The only negative comment that I've heard -- and I have this complaint as well -- is that the case makes the phone a little too wide. The tapered sides make the phone slightly awkward to hold. But hopefully it will just take some getting used to.

The wallet feels a little cheap. It has a velcro clasp which kind of detracts from the luxurious feel of everything else. I don't want to hear velcro opening every time I reach for my phone. It also doesn't have a belt loop or anything like that, so I guess it's made to go inside of a pocket (or a purse, or something).

The nice thing about the leather wallet is that it is actually thin enough to fit inside of a pocket without adding too much bulk.

that's disappointing to hear. if it really sounds that bad that may be a deal breaker for me. the wallet with velcro reminds me of the cheap freebie cases your eye doctor would give you.

nice thing to hear about the size, 'cause that's how i was planning to carry it around.
 
I've had my case for about 3 months now and the wood where the volume control is broke off. The wood in this area is paper thin. I sent them a picture of the defect and they won't replace the part unless I send them the damaged case. I think for the crazy money you pay for this case the quality should be better and it shouldn't be such a hassle to get it fixed.

Seriously? Just send the case back in a tiny priority mail box. ~$5 and you get a new case back. Problem solved.

A hassle would be if they told you to use a nail file and make the broken piece in the shape of a dragon or something. Asking to ship the case back is not a hassle. :rolleyes:
