My mbp was recently stolen. I don't have iCloud on the machine so no help there. It was stolen from a university building which makes me think whoever stole it is associated with the university. I figure if I can get the MAC address for the wifi card I can see if my mbp has been used on the university wifi. So is there any way to get the MAC address without my laptop? I recently had a repair done at an apple store. Would the system profiler report have that info? If so, how would I get that?

I think the MAC address is on the box the mbp is shipped in

Yep, it certainly is. It's labeled "AirPort ID". The only possible issue would be if it was replaced under warranty since purchase. If not, then the one on the box would be it.
