iPhone Find my friends issue with location

Does find my friends ever wrongly put people in a place they were previously, say weeks ago? Is this a known glitch?

No, not in my experience using it.

It think it might show an older location initially at times until it retrieves a new one. Doesn't always happen, but I've seen it behave that way too.

I had this problem over a year ago. My friend moved countries but find friends would always place him at his old house for a good few minutes until it finally updated the current location. This happened for a good month.

Did your friend take a Wifi access point with him?

The iPhone will use Wifi to locate you when GPS is not available. If a Wifi base station is moved, it may still be in Apple's database at the old location, so the device may think it's at that old location until it uses GPS.
