Went to show off to somebody today and all four of my AirTags no longer show up on the Find My app.

Restarted my phone, it alerted me there were two tags following me that weren’t mine and when checked they are register to me.

What the heck?

Hmm. Wonder if you're not hitting some iCloud strangeness with your device authentication. Are all of your devices updated to the latest version of code? Devices signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID and much older versions of code can cause race conditions that produce unpredictable results.

I did a hard reset, even updated to the 14.7 beta 3 to see if it changed it. I didn't risk signing out of my account on the phone as I didn't want my 77,000 pictures to possibly have to be totally redone. They still showed up on the iPad so I just removed them and re paired with them so they all show up everywhere again.

Don't see anyone on the web having the same problem so lets hope its very very rare.

You realize they are under "Items" not "Devices" right?
Right. It even was giving me ‘follow’ notices on the two moving ones on my wallet and keychain. The web page showed they were linked to my phone number. Turned off Find My, did a hard reset still no joy.

Oh, and all of mine still have the old firmware even though they sit near my iPhone every night.
At least I didn’t have 20 of them!

I hope you're using feedback assistant to send all of this to Apple! :)

Which firmware do your AirTags have on them? (.225 or .276?)

I had the same happen to me a couple of weeks ago. I ended up resetting my phone and restoring from backup and all was good. The “there’s been an air tag following you for half an hour message” creeped me out until I figured that it was my air tag that was triggering the message. Same as you, no items listed on my phone, all three of them listed on my ipad.

Mine has done this too! I had to get my battery replaced at apple under applecare, don’t know if it’s related to that. But I can’t re-pair them/resync them and it’s a pain in the butt. I need to contact apple support I think.

Sounds like maybe the shared security key between your iPhone and AirTags got corrupted. If you have a Mac or iPad, you could use them to unpair the AirTags from your AppleID.

If a friend has a spare device that you could activate on your Apple ID, that would also work.
