Alright, I'm trying to install the beta version of this app and cannot figure this out for the life of me...

I download it from the Developer Portal and it gives me a .zip folder. I read (and re-read) the instructions to install and it tells me to "double click to extract". This doesn't work for me...

Every time I double click it extracts the app, but it has an "X" over it. It won't let me drag and drop into Xcode to install.

Please go easy on me, as this is the first beta app I've attempted to install without iTunes.

What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm using a Mac

Here's what I did to install the app:

Uninstall the old Find iPhone app from your iPhone.
Open Xcode
Click Devices at top
Click your iPhone on the left
Click Applications
Click Add, Find the Find iPhone app you downloaded (the one with the X)
Press Upload
You should be done.

I will try that as soon as I get off work. I literally googled for at least an hour and couldn't figure it out.

Thank you!

XCode isn't cross platform with Windows.

Haven't messed with myself, and not at home now.

Oh I know, I meant I downloaded Find My iPhone on my Mac and got "stuck".

I get this message:

You can’t open the application “Find iPhone” because it is not supported on this type of Mac.

I'm using MBP Retina Display

Are you referring to the .ipa? Once I double clicked the .zip it gave me the Find My iPhone icon with an X over it. I couldn't manually drag and drop into Xcode.

I can't believe it would be any more difficult on a Mac than a Windows machine but on Windows all you do is unzip the ZIP file and then drag the new folder (the entire folder) into your opened iTunes app.

What version of XCode do you have?

I just updated to the latest version before I tried any of this.

I thought the same thing. Unzipping has never been an issue for me until now. It looks like Safari unzips it right after download and Chrome keeps the zipped file. I tried both and I kept getting the X over the app...

I'd really like to get this squared away.

X or no X.... have you tried just dragging it onto iTunes and bypassing Xcode?
WARNING -- I know nothing about Macs.

Haha, I actually have. I tried dragging into iTunes and Xcode both.

I just wonder why I have an X over the app after I double click

I'm unable to select "Add". Everything is greyed out. Not really sure what's going on..

The X means it won't run on your mac. That's all. I got the same thing. Restart itunes and try dragging again.

UPDATE: I've installed it via iTunes. I was unable to install via Xcode (which I still don't understand, but oh well).

Thanks for the help everyone!

Wow, dragging to iTunes works?! I've been doing it the hard way apparently!

Thanks for the update!

Not a problem. I was just frustrated that I couldn't install via Xcode, when that's what Apple recommends under the installation instructions.

I was hesitant to install it through iTunes because when I dragged/dropped it didn't have an icon and I thought something was wrong.

Got it working now, though!

you can do it on windows too, just download the file from a site and unzip it, drag the whole folder to iTunes and it should be under the apps section, it doesn't have an icon though it just says Find iPhone
