Hey,

I currently have liquid damage to topcase, so I am looking to buy a topcase/keyboard and take the macbook apart.

I am wondering as to how I can make sure I am getting the correct part.. is there a way to check this?

I bought it in apple store new york end of december 2011.

Is there a place to put in serial number of the macbook to get details up?

Try going to www.ifixit.com. Their parts store has a tool to help you to identify what model you have and lists replacement parts by specific models. They probably have the part you are looking for on their site as well. They also have repair guides that tell you how easy or complex certain repairs are to do yourself.
