Find Stolen iPad?

I recently left my iPad on an airplane. Called the airline 1 hour later when I got home and they were no help. I know apple does not track these things either. Is there anything I can do to not be SOL?

Have you tried the 'find my ipad' thingy?

It can send a message, locate it on a map, (if it's connected to the internet), and wipe the device.

Unfortunately was not installed on the iPad.

I know that Apple has the technology to see if it was taken to an Apple repair store, or registered with a new iTunes account, but they will not release it..

Well, silly question, but why wasn't it setup to find it? It's a 30 second process? Do you have the serial number, etc? Give it to the police.
