If you can help, I've covered the web, all the usual forums, and haven't been able to find a fix... Finder has just seemed to be doing strange things lately (runs slow, hangs when I try to restart or power down (have to force power down)), but the biggest thing is that I have not been able to mount and unmount drives. I have two external WD drives: 700 GB (video and digital photo backups) and 1 TB (Time Machine backup). If I try to eject them, I get an error message that they are in use and could not be ejected. Only the Finder is open. I cannot unmount or eject them from Disk Utility. When I run in Terminal "lsof" I get:
For the 700 GB ("Media"):

SystemUIS 155 Shawn txt REG 14,2 1166144 19222381 /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MediaKit.framework/Versions/A/MediaKit
For the 1 TB ("Time Machine Backups"):
Finder 152 Shawn 7r DIR 14,7 3842 88 /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/Shawn McMahons MacBook Pro
If I go to Activity Monitor and quit these processes, I get a warning that it will log me out, etc, but even if I quit them and log back in, I still have the same problems and the drives are stuck. This has also kept the 1 TB drive from backing up properly: Time Machine just spins and spins and the drive keeps running, but Time Machine actually isn't doing anything (it's always "Preparing to Back Up" or "Stopping Back Up" if I try to stop it).
The only way I can unmount the drives is to "force" them through Terminal with the "hdiutil eject -force" and if I restart the machine, I'm back to square one. Someone suggested I run Disk Utility on the laptop's HD, which I did, and it said it was fine.
I'm getting to wits end and trying to avoid driving down to the closest Apple store... Any help/insight/suggestions would be much appreciated...
Thanks,
Shawn
