Hey, I bought a brand new iMac 20" 2.4 GHz on August 24.

For some reason, starting this morning, when ever I open it, it closes. The only way I'm able to get into stuff is by using the 3rd setting theme thing.

How can I fix this? The way I'd like it to be is to have the First Setting.

I can take a video of this problem if some one needs too.

Thanks!

firstly what is the third gen theme thing? there are not theme apps for Leopard yet just isntallers that change system files to change the UI colours.

it sounds like Finder is crashing. have you installed any software which may be causing the problem? what are you doing when it crashes? just looking thru folders and files or right clicking?

also open Console in the Utilities folder and look for the log output that appears when Finder crashes.

ok thats perfectly fine those are just labels that are built into Finder and are not the cause :).

but im not sure what you mean by "that is the one i want"? do you want to click button with four squares on it to use grid view and then it crashes?

Maybe it's a corrupted preference file.

Delete ~/Library/Preference/com.apple.finder.plist

Then force quit Finder to restart it.

what files are in your folder when you click gird view? are there any uncommon files that do not have a Quick Look plugin that may be crashing Finder when trying to generate an icon preview?

try unchecking "Icon Preview" in View Options.
