Finder confused when organizing photos :-(

I'm trying to sift through a thousand photos and move the best ones into a sub-folder called "KEEP".

After, for example, I drag the 48th photo into the Keep subfolder, finder loses focus and I can't tell where I was.

I've tried cover-flow and columns in finder.

HELP!

I'm coming from Windows and this is a major problem.

What's the best way to segregate thousands of photos into KEEP or TOSS sub-folders.
