hi all. I am crossposting from the apple forums.

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone here has experienced this or knows what the cause may be because my searching has not turned up anything.

I have a late 2012 Mac Mini running 10.11.6.

I have previously had no issues but for the past week or so my finder crashes once per day. When it crashes, it won't load a window and gives me a spinning blue ball or beach ball. This is not like the rainbow colored ball I've seen before. I can use other programs.

If I go to relaunch the finder (through force quit) it closes but does not relaunch.

Trying to shut down while it's frozen with the blue ball does not shut down the computer. I have to hold down power to give it a hard shutdown. Upon boot, sometimes it boots quickly while others it hangs for up to 5 minutes at a black screen with no cursor, before showing the login items.

Upon reboot it works fine for a while and I have no been able to isolate what is causing it to crash (or even if its the same activity each time).

I have upgraded the RAM to 16gb and the hard drive to a SSD (combined with the 500gb it came with as a "fusion" drive). Both were done a long time ago when I first purchased the computer.

This most recent time the crash occurred when accessing a drobo share, although I'm not sure that it always is the case.

Used disk utility on all drives to perform "first aid". Nothing found. S.M.A.R.T. on the hard drive says verified.

Any other ideas or thoughts as to where to begin?

THANK YOU!
