I'm just recently bought a new macbook pro and the filenames in finder are driving me crazy. Is there a workaround for it to look like in windows, so finder cuts off the end of the file name and doesn't cut out the middle?

You can turn off file extensions in Finder>Preferences>Advanced.

i know that... but i want finder to show "Big_ass_file_name_..." and not "Big_ass...see.txt" because i have quite a lot of files that are different in the middle and look the same at the beginning... and i turned the extenstions on :)

nope. Best thing I can say is look at your files in a Finder window as list view and extend the category
