I need to be able to see 'artist' and 'album' in finder or a finder alternative. how can i do this?

To elaborate... I store my music on an external hard drive, there is too much to store on my MacBook Pro. I need to be able to see artist and album name in finder (or an equivalent) for browsing/tune picking purposes. the main issue here being when i a) search for a song title or b) browse compilations - two things which happen a lot. obviously an album by a single artist is not a problem.

I cannot simply add the music to itunes as I work as a DJ and sync itunes with my software, therefore I keep a very particular selection of music in there.

I have tried the main alternatives to finder, pathfinder and xfile, and have not seen any provide the variety of view options that i need.

I have tried loading my music into songbird (without transferring it to my mac hd) but this means i then have to load up every piece of music i get from now on if i want to view it all in the same place, a prospect i find frustrating.

i have tried the freeware 'mediabrowser.app' which comes close to what i want (it shows artist name at least) but seems to crash when i try to view my 1tb hard drive through it.

thoughts?
