Still newish to macOS. But, I am curious, are there any gestures that allow one to go back and forth between folders in Finder?
I am in Finder quite often, using lots of different folders. Hence, my question...

OS: Ventura at work and Monterey at Home

can't think of a touchpad gesture at the moment, but CMD + UP arrow key = go one folder up in the folder hierarchy.
depending on the view, CMD + DOWn = one folder deeper. if you're on a file, it will open the file.
general navigation is done via the arrow keys

if you want to know more, i can highly recommend this channel, that guy is incredible!

also, here's a list of Finder keyboard shortcuts:

With BetterTouchTool you can freely assign swipe gestures (like 3-finger swipe left) to execute any desired commands (like cmd+up in Finder).
And finger-tip-tap gestures to a.e. switch between tabs.
And much, much more…
Paid software. 10$ for two years of updates but unlimited use. 22$ lifetime updates.

personally, while gestures are a nice thing, i personally think they are just not as reliable to execute as keyboard commands. some gestures also actually require quite some bit of travel and i'm not really sure if they are actually faster to execute than straight keyboard commands.

i feel while gestures feel more natural, they are more prone to not being recognized correctly (or recognized at all), while keyboard commands might be more technical / computer geekery, but they're working 100% reliably and are possibly even faster.
i'm also using gestures like opening Exposé or that "iOS app launcher", but for general navigation it's almost always the keyboard for me, as it's just faster and 100% reliable.
