Finder icons flickering to colour sidebar icons

Sometimes when I open a new finder window, some of the icons such as the desktop and downloads are briefly displayed as colour icons, before flickering back to being the usual blue folders with detail. After some browsing around online, it would seem that the colour icons they flicker to are the old colour sidebar icons from Snow Leopard.

Any ideas why this may be happening? It is intermittent, and I'm more wondering out of curiosity than anything else.

I haven't downloaded any icon packs or similar since upgrading from Snow Leopard.
