i know that i have to disable preview when i view avis, but it is too annoying. when in thumbnail mode, and in the collum mode, if the computer attempts to preview an avi file, finder will restart! is it possible to have an option like "never preview this" or "don't" preview, or just "fix" the preview option? i don't need to preview .avis, but i need for everything especially photos and pictures. it's very very annoying!

Unfortunately, no. You might consider getting the divx codec for Quicktime, however, which will let you preview the files (and won't give everything a seizure).

I have had Finder grind while trying to preview AVIs before, and it takes a while sometimes, but it has never crashed for me - interesting. I, too, would suggest grabbing the proper codecs to at least help matters.

sorry, but i forgot to mention that i use vlc, xine, and mplayer 2 to view my files. i'l try to instal divx. does 3vix help too?
