Finder keeps telling me I don't have privliges when trying to move, delete or change a file on my desktop. everything else on my computer works fine and I can change files or folders in my docs or my other folders.

Have you done a reinstall of OS X recently? First thing you could try is repairing your disk permissions with the disk utility.

Right click on your desktop and go to "Get Info"

Click the little lock icon on the bottom right corner. Authenticate. In the "Sharing and Permissions" section select your username and make sure the privelege says "Read & Write"

Click the lock again and close the window.
