Finder Lag

I'm experiencing lag in Finder when moving folders in thumbnail view, on my iMac. I move the file, but it takes a few seconds to actually move. Other views seem a little slower too, but are otherwise fine.

What could the reason for this be? I've Googled in as many terms, yet found nothing definitive, so MR is my first port of call before the Apple help line.

FURTHER INFORMATION EDIT: It does not happen on other user accounts. The lag is only short, between 1 and 2 seconds long, rather annoying still. My icons are 48 X 48. I have repaired permissions and it is still continuing to happen.

id bet the best way is just to reinstall OSX, it takes a couple hours, but it doesn't get rid of any personal data, and everything works like its new so...

Reinstalled and still the same. I'm going to phone Apple Care.

YET ANOTHER EDIT: I phoned Apple Care and the person on the end of the phone say it should be fine, but to call if anything else shows such behaviour, applications opening slowly for example.
