Finder loses Desktop - no Folder, Document, or Drive icons until logout

I am running 26.2. On one of my desktop systems, the Finder periodically loses its Desktop - no Folder, Document, or Drive icons until logout. "KillAll Finder" does not resolve the issue.
Has anybody else seen this?

Are you referring to the left sidebar in a Finder window?

Or are you referring to the Desktop itself. If the Desktop itself, do you have Stage Manager enabled? If so, try Settings > Desktop & Dock > click Show Items On Desktop

The desktop itself. I have not run into this in all my time with Macs since 1984.
